First Emerald / ABA Train Loads at The Rock

In December 2011, Emerald Group announced a multi-million dollar investment strategy to strengthen its supply chain capability to deliver an integrated end-to-end grain supply chain.

Part of this strategy was the acquisition of Australian Bulk Alliance (ABA), which includes in this region, the storage facilities at The Rock, Coolamon and Goolgowi and the Port Of Melbourne bulk grain facility,

It also involved leasing and operating trains from southern NSW and Victoria to the Melbourne Port.

Ahead of its deal coming on-line with Pacific National in July, a deal was struck with El Zorro for access to rail in February and the first “Emerald” bulk grain train loaded at The Rock on Sunday 19 February.

As of 20 March, sixteen Emerald trains have hauled grain from ABA Coolamon, ABA The Rock and GrainCorp Oaklands.
