INVESTING IN OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES - SOUTHERN AGVENTURE

As headers move through the paddocks across the Riverina, grain growers are being urged to consider the potential for increasing their income from their farm output while keeping the profits in their local community.

This is the message from the newly formed board of Southern Agventure, who encourage people to take the opportunity to support the creation of new community based partnerships for the value adding of local agricultural production by buying shares in Southern Agventure.

A full prospectus has been released and distributed and the share offer closes at 5pm on December 8, 2009. For interested people who did not receive a prospectus, it can be read or downloaded at www.southernagventure.com.au

Southern Agventure aims to raise $1.45 million in the share offer and is issuing shares at $1 each.

The board's deputy chairman Andrew Bouffler said while initial interest in the company has come from farmers, the offer is open to anyone who is interested in investing in Australian agriculture and rural communities.

"It's time for the region's farmers to take control of their futures, by having an influence on the supply chain, building alliances and partnerships and being proactive in adding value to local produce," he said.

"As a result more farmers are rewarded for the quality of the grain, oilseeds, meat and fibre we produce in the Riverina and rural communities will gain benefit through the establishment of new business ventures."

Southern Agventure's first partnership is already up and running with Southern Ag Grain (SAG), a joint venture with the Emerald Group. In its first two weeks of operation local growers committed approximately 10,000 tonne of grain to SAG from a wide area across the Riverina.

As a 50 per cent shareholder in SAG, Southern Agventure will receive 50 per cent of the profit from the marketing of that grain - which will then be used to develop further business ideas and return dividends to shareholders.
